Students in Mr. Tubbs’s 7th grade science classes participate in portions of the Mars Student Imaging Project (MSIP) while completing their unit on Geology. MSIP, hosted jointly by Arizona State University and NASA is a nationally recognized award winning authentic inquiry-based learning and student-centered education project. Students learn how science works by engaging in science research using data from a NASA spacecraft orbiting Mars. Working in groups to examine images of Mars taken by the Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) camera on-board the Mars Odyssey Spacecraft orbiter, students understand how science really works by actually being a scientist.
